Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra Updates, Day 11: A day after Rahul Gandhi-led Congress workers clashed with Assam Police on the Guwahati, party president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking his intervention to ensure the security of Gandhi and other participants of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

This follows a FIR against Gandhi and other Congress leaders by the Assam Police for the altercation. The party leaders were charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, and breach of peace, among others. The case was filed after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the "Naxalite tactics" used by Congress workers are "not part of Assamese culture".

"With reference to wanton acts of violence, provocation, damage to public property and assault on police personnel today by Cong members, a FIR has been registered against Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Kanhaiya Kumar and other individuals under section 120(B)143/147/188/283/353/332/333/427 IPC R/W Sec. 3 of PDPP Act," Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in social media post on X.

In his letter to Shah, the Congress president alleged that Assam Police prioritised protecting BJP posters instead of ensuring a safe passage for the Yatra. He also highlighted the Sonitpur incident, stating that the BJP workers assaulted the Congress' social media team and party general secretary Jairam Ramesh's vehicle.

"Despite all of the instances listed above, and the presence of ample evidence available in the public domain, none of the miscreants have been arrested and in many instances, investigation has not been initiated," the letter read.

"As the risk increases, and as the Yatra proceeds as planned, we request your intervention to ensure that the Chief Minister of Assam and the Director General of Police, Assam ensure that no such untoward incident takes place which may lead to grave personal injury to Shri. Rahul Gandhi or any members of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra," he wrote.
