Patna police have arrested Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JSJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav on Saturday, hours after being detained and released during protests held as part of the Bihar bandh over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. He was later sent to 14 days' judicial custody.
The Janata Dal Chief was at a shopping mall in Patna when a police team, led by the city superintendent of police (SP), arrived and took him into custody. Yadav was then escorted in the City SP's official vehicle amid the presence of a large contingent of police personnel.
The 38-year-old leader arrived at Gandhi Maidan Gate No. 10 in support of the student movement in the early hours of Saturday. He climbed a statue and hoisted the tricolor. Yadav joined the agitation against the alleged paper leak and remained in the protest for a considerable amount of time.

During the afternoon hours, cops took him to preventive custody amid the student protest. Later, the Janata Dal leader was arrested on charges of disrupting law and order, among others.

-As violence erupted during the protest in Gandhi Maidan, Dakbangla Chowraha, and surrounding areas of the capital. Several police officials, including Gandhi Maidan chief Akhilesh Mishra and Station House Officer Pramod Kumar, suffered injuries in the stone-pelting by protesters. Multiple government vehicles and public property were also damaged.
- Apart from Tej Pratap Yadav, First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against many others. Cops alleged that their role in inciting the crowd and disrupting law and order during the protest is being investigated.
-Four separate FIRs have been filed at Gandhi Maidan and Kotwali police stations in connection to the violence during the student protest.
-Police have detained RJD MLA Gautam Krishna and about 60 supporters.
-Protestors are being interrogated and are being identified using the CCTV footage in the affected areas.
