Bihar will get 22 new medical colleges in the coming years, Health Minister Mangal Pandey said during the budget speech.
After the construction of 22 new medical colleges in the state, the number of seats will rise to 2,350, while the number of beds will rise to 9,900.
There are currently 12 government medical colleges and 9 private medical college hospitals in the state. The total number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges is 1520, while there are 1,350 seats in private medical colleges. Similarly, the number of beds in government medical college hospitals is 11,162 and the number of beds in private hospitals is 7,822.
The construction of new medical colleges will be a major boost to the state's health infrastructure. The construction work of medical college hospitals in five districts Purnia, Bettiah, Samastipur, Madhepura, and Saran has been completed and they have also been inaugurated.
Medical Colleges Are Being Constructed In 10 Districts
Apart from these, medical college hospitals are being constructed in 10 other districts. These include Government Medical Colleges in Sitamarhi, Jhanjharpur, Siwan, Buxar, Jamui, Begusarai, Vaishali, Munger, Supaul and Ara.
Apart from this, the proposal for medical college in Motihari, Gopalganj, and Saharsa has also been approved. Their construction will start soon.
Minister Pandey said that apart from these, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced the construction of medical college hospitals in Banka, Araria, Khagaria, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Nawada and Jehanabad during his Pragati Yatra.
Administrative approval has been received and the construction will start next year. The number of government medical college hospitals will be 34.
Trauma Centres To Be Constructed in These Districts
Apart from the medical colleges, trauma centers will also be built in Vikram, Mohania and Karhara. Minister Mangal Pandey told the House that trauma centers will be started on the highway in Vikram of Patna, Mohania of Kaimur, Karhara of Aurangabad with the aim of taking the injured to the hospital on time in accidents occurring on national highways.
