Delhi Water Crisis: Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Sunday called out the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its alleged three pronged approach to disrupt water supply to the national capital. Atishi accused BJP of sending goons to the Delhi Jal Board Office (DJB) in Chhatarpur earlier in the day and causing ruckus. She further held the party responsible for conspiring against the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government by breaking pipelines and asking the Haryana government to not release Delhi's share of water.

“Many parts of South Delhi did not receive water this morning because the main pipeline was intentionally broken yesterday. Step one of the conspiracy, asking the Haryana government to not send water. Step two, breaking water pipelines and disrupting the water supply. Step three which was revealed today was the BJP sending goons to Delhi Jal Board office to create ruckus,” said Atishi at a press conference, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Earlier today, unidentified individuals vandalised the DJB office in Chhatarpur amid the severe water shortage faced by the residents of the national capital. The footage, shared by news agency ANI, showed shattered window panes and broken earthen pots at the DJB office.

The dire situation in Delhi has led to protests, vandalism in several areas and heated political exchanges between political parties. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has shared another video of the incident alleging that the destruction was caused by some BJP workers.

“See how BJP workers are breaking the office of Delhi Jal Board while shouting slogans of ‘BJP Zindabad’,” AAP wrote on X.

“On one hand, the BJP government of Haryana is withholding Delhi's rightful share of water, while on the other hand, the BJP is damaging the property of the people of Delhi,” it added.

Meanwhile, Atishi has demanded for the deployment of police personnel to protect major pipelines in the national capital. In a letter addressed to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Sunday, Atishi requested police patrols for the next 15 days to prevent tampering with water pipelines, which are crucial to the city’s water supply.

Atishi's letter highlighted the importance of safeguarding these pipelines against miscreants and those with ulterior motives, warning that any foul play could exacerbate the current water shortage in Delhi. The minister emphasised the urgency of the matter, stating that the city's lifelines must be protected to avoid further strain on the water supply.
