The body of a road accident victim remained on the road for over four hours due to a jurisdictional dispute between police forces in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred on the border of two states when the victim, identified as Rahul Ahirwar, was struck by an unidentified vehicle while crossing a road on his way to Delhi to work as a labourer.

Soon after the incident, local residents immediately informed the Harpalpur police station in Madhya Pradesh, but the officers claimed the accident site fell under the jurisdiction of the Mahobkanth police station in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district. The Madhya Pradesh police left the scene without taking further action, reported NDTV.

When villagers contacted the Uttar Pradesh police, they too refused to intervene, stating it was the responsibility of their Madhya Pradesh counterparts. Frustrated by the lack of response, residents blocked the road in protest, leaving the body at the accident site.

Four hours after the incident, the Madhya Pradesh police eventually retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Only then did the villagers end their protest, allowing traffic to resume.

Visuals from the scene captured the victim’s grieving family sitting beside his body on the road. "My cousin died in an accident, and no one is ready to take responsibility. The Madhya Pradesh police who came scolded us, saying it's not their jurisdiction. We want the autopsy done quickly so we can perform the last rites," a relative of the victim Ramdeen said, as quoted by NDTV.
