Bullet Train News: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Saturday that the first Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is "progressing very well." He also mentioned that the first corridor will integrate economies. During an event hosted by NDTV, Vaishnaw stated that the bullet train project needed to be viewed from the standpoint of integrating the economies.

According to the minister, Mumbai, Thane, Vapi, Baroda, Surat, Anand, and Ahmedabad will unite economically under the first corridor.

“So you can have breakfast in Surat, go and complete your work in Mumbai, and come back with your family in the night,” the minister said at the event. He added that 90 per cent of the transportation share was taken up by bullet train projects in the majority of the locations.

Vaishnaw stated last month that the first section of the bullet train, which will run from Bilimora to Surat, will be completed by 2026.

When testing on this route is finished, he said, Shinkansen E5 series trains will be used for the trials. The minister set off a blast to build a shaft at Vikhroli so that tunnel boring machines (TBM) could be lowered for the construction of the 21-kilometre underground tunnel, which is thought to be the technological feat of India's first bullet train project.

The shaft at the Vikhroli site of the National High-Speed Rail Corridor is one of four planned for the bullet train's entire 21-kilometre underground stretch.

Two TBMs will be launched using shaft-2, one towards Sawli in Navi Mumbai and the other towards the east end of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) station. "Trains will zip through the tunnel at a maximum speed of up to 320 km. Constructing it without disturbing the tall buildings in the area is a challenge," he was quoted by PTI as saying.

At an estimated cost of Rs 1.10 lakh crore, the project intends to implement Japan's Shinkansen Technology. The project is anticipated to start providing services by 2026.
