Mahua Moitra Expulsion: The Supreme Court has asked the Secretary General of Lok Sabha to file a response within two weeks on a plea moved by Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra challenging her expulsion from the lower House of Parliament in the 'cash-for-query' case, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.

The apex court has listed the matter for hearing in the week commencing March 11. Notably, the development emerged hours after Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai alleged that Moitra is conducting surveillance against him, saying that he has filed his complaint with the CBI and "will not back down". Dehadrai was the complainant in the alleged 'cash-for-query' case.

"I have given my complaint to CBI. This is a very serious issue and there are people from Odisha who are financing and supporting those against whom I have filed a complaint (to CBI). This fight is a bit dangerous but I will not back down," the SC Advocate was quoted as saying by ANI.

Moitra was expelled from Lok Sabha on December 8 following the House's adoption of a motion for her expulsion after the lower chamber's Ethics Committee found her guilty in the case. Following her expulsion, Moitra said the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee broke "every rule in the book" while probing the allegations against her. She had also accused the BJP-led central government of having weaponised parliamentary panels to muzzle the Opposition.

"This Lok Sabha has also seen the weaponisation of the Parliamentary committee. Ironically the Ethics Committee which was set up to serve as a moral compass for members, instead it has been abused egregiously today to do exactly what it was never meant to do, which is to bulldoze the opposition and become another weapon to 'thok do' (crush) us into submission," the TMC leader had stated.
