The Ethics panel report recommending the expulsion of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on the alleged ‘cash-for-query’ case will be tabled in the Lok Sabha today. Meanwhile, the BJP also issued a three-line whip to its Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the House tomorrow.

Earlier, the report was not tabled despite being listed in the agenda of the lower house for December 4. Meanwhile, several opposition members said that recommendations should be discussed before taking decision on Moitra.

"If the report is tabled, we would insist on a full-fledged discussion as the draft was adopted in two-and-a-half minutes," BSP MP Danish Ali told reporters, as quoted by PTI.

Earlier on November 9, the Vinod Kumar Sonkar-led committee adopted its report recommending Moitra's expulsion from Lok Sabha over the "cash-for-query" allegation.

As many as six members of the panel including Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who had been suspended from the party, voted in favour of the report. While four members belonging to opposition parties submitted their dissent notes. The TMC MP can only be expelled if the House votes in support of the panel's recommendations.

Meanwhile, several opposition leaders referred to the report as a ‘fixed match’ and said that there was not a ‘shred of evidence’ that could support the complaint filed by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikanty Dubey.

Allegations Against Mahua Moitra:

Earlier, Nishikant Dubey had written to the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Moitra, accusing her of asking questions in Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group at the behest of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for bribes. The BJP MP also alleged that Moitra took cash and gifts from the businessman to ask questions in Parliament. Later, Hiranandani also confirmed the charges levelled against the TMC MP in the “cash for query” row.

However, the TMC MP denied the charges levelled against her and said that Hiranandani used her login credentials, but rejected any pecuniary considerations, claiming that most MPs share their login information with others.
