Blinkit has removed the 10-minute delivery claim from its branding, with other delivery platforms likely to follow. The move comes after Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya asked leading quick-commerce and food delivery companies to scrap the compulsory 10-minute delivery target following multiple rounds of discussions, ANI said on Tuesday.

Representatives from platforms including Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato and Swiggy attended a meeting where concerns over delivery time pressures and worker safety were raised.

The decision aims to improve the safety, security and overall working conditions of gig workers. As part of the change, Blinkit has updated its brand messaging, replacing the tagline “10,000 plus products delivered in 10 minutes” with “30,000 plus products delivered at your doorstep,” sources added.

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha On Gig Workers 

Public debate around the working conditions of gig workers has intensified in recent weeks. During the latest Parliament session, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha highlighted the hardships faced by gig workers, who often work under extreme pressure and in difficult weather. He urged the government to regulate quick commerce and app-based services, stressing the need for social security, dignity, protection and fair wages for gig workers.

Nationwide Gig Worker Strike 

1. Gig and delivery worker unions organised nationwide strike calls on December 25 and December 31, citing unsafe delivery practices, falling earnings and weak social security support.

2. Although most cities reported normal delivery operations on New Year’s Eve, the protests intensified scrutiny of ultra-fast delivery models and worker safety.

3. Company leaders, including Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, had earlier defended quick deliveries, arguing that efficiency comes from system design and that delivery partners are insured.

4. The government’s recent involvement indicates a more careful approach towards strict delivery-time commitments.

5. By removing fixed delivery promises like “10-minute delivery” from promotions, quick commerce firms are adjusting to regulatory pressure and worker concerns, even as market rivalry stays strong.

New Legal Recognition And Protections For Gig & Platform Workers

India has formally recognised gig and platform workers under the Code on Social Security, 2020 (effective November 21, 2025), ensuring benefits like insurance, health care, maternity cover and old-age protection. A Social Security Fund and National Board will support their welfare, while the e-Shram portal maintains their national database.
