A day after his resignation was accepted by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust, former temple general secretary Champat Rai has released a letter to the devotees of Lord Ram.
In a post on X, Rai posted the open letter with a couplet from Shri Ramcharitmanas as a caption. In a handwritten letter, Rai said that baseless allegations were made against him, but he maintained silence.
He wrote, "Since June 7, 2026, there have been various discussions regarding the theft committed during the counting of donations from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple complex. Many people have made baseless allegations against me personally. I have maintained silence. The preliminary report of the SIT was presented in the meeting of the Temple Trust held on July 6. This report has now been made public.
He further added that the SIT report is still confidential and vowed to give a pointed response on all allegations once the report is released in the public domain.
"However, it was kept 'top secret'. I assure you all that after the final SIT report is released, I will respond to all the points being spread in a systematic manner, and the entire truth will be revealed. I was sent to Ayodhya by the organisation in October 1991. My life as a pracharak spans 45 years. Wherever I have lived, it is like an open book. Respectful salutations to everyone."
Champat Rai and trust member Anil Mishra came under scrutiny after a massive donation fund embezzlement was allegedly confirmed in the investigation of the SIT, formed by CM Yogi Adityanath government.
They had tendered their resignations, which were accepted by the trust during a July 6 meeting at the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya.
The trust, headed by Mahant Nrityagpal Das of Mani Ramdas Chhavni, also formed a three-member panel to finalise the name of temple's first CEO as SIT has suggested an overhaul of the temple management system in its report.
Till that time, trustee Krishna Mohan, who filed the first FIR in the alleged donation theft case on June 25, will hold an additional interim responsibility of the general secretary.
