Chandigarh Airport Repair Work: With 33 domestic and two overseas flight operations, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport will remain closed for civil flight operations from October 26 to November 7 due to scheduled repair work on the runway. The Indian Air Force has announced the closure and repair work.

Along with 33 domestic flights to various cities, Chandigarh operates two overseas flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Indian Air Force, issuing a notification, informed about the scheduled repair work and closure of the airfield as it issued a notice to Arimen (NOTAM). Chandigarh Airport CEO confirmed the NOTAM and said a fresh NOTAM will be issued for the resumption of flight operations.

CHIAL CEO Ajay Kumar said, “NOTAM has been issued for closure of runway repair from October 26 to November 7. Fresh NOTAM will be issued for resumption of flight operations.”

During the repair work at the airport runway, an advanced Korean-made CAT-ILS-I (Instrument Landing System) will be installed, which will improve flight operations in low visibility conditions, the Hindustan Times reported, quoting a source at the airport.

How Will Chandigarh Airport Closure Affect passengers

The airport closure is expected to affect passengers significantly, as the airport caters to nearly 10,000 passengers every day. Chandigarh airport is crucial for the tricity region, as it connects the city with major domestic destinations, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Pune, Lucknow, Indore, Srinagar, Dharamshala, Jammu, and Leh, along with the UAE in the Middle East.

The airport was closed earlier as well, and a similar NOTAM was issued by the Indian Air Force earlier this year after regional tension broke out between Indian and Pakistan, leading to the closure of the airport for a few days.
