The Chandigarh Metro Rail Project has been officially approved by the UT Administration in collaboration with the Haryana and Punjab State Governments. Set to significantly enhance public transportation in the region, the project was given the green light in 2023 and will be operated and managed by the Chandigarh Metro Rail Corporation.

The exact number of stations has not been defined, the approval of this project marks a significant step towards improving the public transit infrastructure in Chandigarh. The introduction of the metro rail system is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travel times, and provide a more efficient and comfortable mode of transportation for residents and visitors alike. The Chandigarh Metro Rail Project, a major Tricity initiative, is set to be developed in two phases. The entire project will span 114 km, with Phase 1 covering 89 km and Phase 2 adding the remaining 25 km, as per a Times Property report.
