Chandranath Rath Murder Case: In connection with the murder of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s personal assistant, Chandranath Rath, the West Bengal Police, in coordination with local police, conducted raids in the villages of Deoria and Matsa in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur. During the operation, police teams reportedly entered premises by scaling boundary walls after doors were not opened. A young man was detained during the raid, jagran.com reported.
Rath was shot dead in Madhyamgram's Doharia Lane, around 7 km from Kolkata airport, on the night of May 6, in what BJP leaders described as a "planned assassination". Rath's SUV was intercepted by a silver car near his residence, following which armed men on two-wheelers opened fire, killing him.
On Sunday midnight, five police vehicles from Bengal and the local police station, Zamania, raided the village of Matsa. Police attempted to force the gate open, but the family refused. They then scaled a small wall to enter and searched the rooms.
However, the person being sought by the police could not be traced during the raids. Instead, a young man from the neighborhood was taken into custody for questioning. Following this, the police conducted another raid in the nearby village of Deoria, but it did not find any leads.

The purpose of this raid was to identify and arrest suspects in the murder of Chandranath Rath. The Bengal Police, acting swiftly in this case, took this step in collaboration with local police. According to police sources cited by jagran.com, some criminal elements may have been behind Chandranath Rath's murder, and this raid was conducted to identify them.
This police action in the villages triggered panic among residents with many questioning it. Some locals also termed the action necessary. Police said that they may soon make more arrests in the case.
