Chennai BMW Crash:  In another high-profile hit-and-run incident within a month of the Pune Porsche crash, the daughter of a YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP allegedly struck a man sleeping on a pavement in Chennai with her BMW car. The 24-year man succumbed to injuries in a hospital, whereas, the MP's daughter was granted bail in the case.

The incident took place on Monday night when Madhuri, the daughter of YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, was driving a BMW car. She allegedly ran her car over a painter, who was later identified as Surya, who was sleeping on the pavement, NDTV reported. According to reports, 33-year-old Madhuri was accompanied by a female friend in the car at the time of the accident.

Madhuri left the spot immediately after the accident, officials reported. However, her friend, who stepped out of the car and argued with the people present on the spot, too left after some time. The locals shifted Surya to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead, the report stated.

Surya, who worked as a daily waged painter, was married eight months ago. After the incident, his relatives and neighbours reached the J-5 Shastri Nagar Police Station to demand strict action against the culprit. After checking the CCTV footage of the area, police identified the car as belonging to the BMR (Beeda Masthan Rao) group, owned by Madhuri's father. She was arrested, however, later granted the bail.

Beeda Masthan Rao Yadav is a Rajya Sabha MP of Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress party. He entered the upper house of parliament in 2022. A businessman, Rao owns and operates the BMR group, a well-known name in the seafood industry. Masthan has also represented Andhra Pradesh's Kavali constituency in the state's legislative assembly as an MLA.
