An Indian Air Force (IAF) training aircraft crashed near Tambaram in Chennai’s Chengalpattu district on Wednesday afternoon. The aircraft, identified as a Pilatus PC-7 Mk II, was on a routine training sortie when it went down.
According to initial information, the pilot managed to eject from the aircraft in time and escaped safely. There were no injuries reported on the ground and no damage to civilian property in the area.
A video shared by news agency PTI showed debris scattered across an open field, with local residents gathered around the crash site. The clip also captured the remains of the aircraft lying in multiple pieces following the impact.
The Indian Air Force later confirmed the incident on X and said that a detailed inquiry had been initiated.

In its statement, the force said: “An Indian Air Force PC-7 Mk II trainer aircraft met with an accident during a routine training mission and crashed at about 1425 hours near Tambaram, Chennai, today. The pilot ejected safely, and no damage to civil property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
The exact reason for the crash is yet to be determined.
