A four-year-old boy diagnosed with dengue died in a hospital in Chennai. The incident called for criticism from Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the general secretary of the AIADMK and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The DMK-led government has been blamed for not taking proper measures to deal with the spread of the disease.
The deceased, identified as Rakshan, was diagnosed with dengue on September 6 and was admitted to Egmore Children's Hospital. He was placed on life support after his health deteriorated. After two days, he died.
The child's father, Ayyanar, claimed that the doctors informed him that a blood transfusion would be necessary. He said, "He was placed on life support, but unfortunately, he died."
He also urged the government to take immediate action to tackle the spread of dengue.
The deceased's mother, Sonia said, "I was holding my other baby in my hands as I watched my child die. They said his platelets were dangerously low. His suffering was unbearable."
The death of the kid generated controversy and Palaniswami accused the state administration of being responsible for the same.
"There are reports that there was stagnant rainwater around the area where the family lives. The boy died due to these unhygienic surroundings. I condemn his death," he said.
The DMK government is responsible for its negligence in not taking steps to address sanitation-related issues in Tamil Nadu, particularly in Chennai. I urge the government to take necessary steps to prevent the spread of dengue at the earliest," he further said.
