Chennai News: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is expected to launch the ‘Chennai One’ app on Monday, making Chennai the first city to accommodate all the modes of public transport in a single app. The app is developed by the Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA), and the chief minister is set to launch it in one of the governing board meetings. Apart from this, Stalin is also expected to approve the much-awaited Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), a roadmap likely to significantly improve the regional connectivity. Earlier last month, CM Stalin stated that the state government will launch multiple projects in the upcoming months to improve the connectivity.

These are the key features of the app:

- A single QR-based ticket will be required for all the modes of public transport, including buses, metro, suburban trains, cabs, and autorickshaws.

- The app will provide real-time updates regarding the arrival and departure of buses and trains.

- The authority clarified that the tickets can be booked via UPI and other payment modes.

- The app will provide convenience to the commuters by providing support in multiple languages, including Tamil, English, Telugu, and Kannada.

The CUMTA officials stated that both the CMP and the app will significantly improve the travel experience for the commuters by reducing traffic congestion and cutting the travel time. They also emphasised that the CMP will cut the carbon emissions and will also reduce the dependence on the private vehicles.
