The Tamil Nadu government on Monday transferred Chennai city police commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore as Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai and replaced him with senior IPS officer A Arun, three days after Tamil Nadu Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong was hacked to death in Chennai. The transfer order was reportedly issued by the principal secretary to the government P Amudha on Monday.
The police on Saturday said that so far 11 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Tamil Nadu BSP chief. K Armstrong was hacked to death by six men on bikes near his house on Friday. The two-wheeler-borne gang attacked Armstrong, a former councillor of Chennai Corporation, near his Perambur residence in Chennai inflicting grievous injuries on him. The attackers fled the spot after injuring him. The BSP state president was rushed to a hospital for treatment, however, he died on the way.

Following Armstrong’s murder, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that he had ordered the police to investigate the ‘shocking’ murder ‘expeditiously’. Following his death, the BSP leader’s wife K Porkodi had filed a petition in court, seeking approval to bury his body at the party's Chennai office. However, the petition was rejected by the Madras High Court. The court ruled that Armstrong’s body could not be buried at the party's office in Chennai, backing the DMK government's stand.
BSP chief Mayawati who visited Chennai along with party’s national coordinator Akash Anand to attend the funeral for the leader, has demanded a CBI investigation into the murder. "I urge the state government, especially the CM, to ensure law and order in the state. The weaker sections, in particular, should feel safe. Had the government been serious, the accused would have been arrested. Since that is not the case, we urge the state government to refer the case to the CBI," Mayawati said.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla on Sunday questioned Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, asking if he would "care to visit Tamil Nadu" to meet the family of the slain state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief, K Armstrong. "Rahulji! You spoke a lot about Dalits, justice, north-south. You just dropped a post (on the killing of the BSP leader), and you did not even condemn the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government. You reached Hathras. Would you care to visit Tamil Nadu to meet the family of K Armstrong?" Poonawalla told news agency ANI.
