In separate news, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a major initiative to ease traffic congestion by widening and upgrading all 488 bus route roads across the city. The plan includes removing encroachments, redesigning stretches, and carrying out end-to-end paving to improve vehicle movement.

According to officials, work has already been completed on roads such as Gandhi Irwin Bridge Road, Binny Road, CSIR Road, and Pallavan Salai, where the carriageway width has increased by about 60 centimetres, providing additional space for two-wheelers.

Minister T.M. Anbarasan and senior officials recently inspected the Manapakkam–Kundrathur corridor and directed the removal of obstructing streetlights. Meanwhile, councillors have sought further widening near Padi Flyover and new link roads near V.R. Mall to improve traffic flow in surrounding areas.
