Chennai Traffic Advisory: The Tambaram city police on Sunday announced traffic diversions on several routes to manage the expected congestion during the Ayudha Pooja festival on September 30 and October 5 and 6. In its statement, the authority stated that the diversions have been announced to minimise the inconvenience to the commuters. The police have advised the residents to follow the guidelines and use the public transportation for the next few days to avoid the rush. Thousands of residents celebrate Ayudha Pooja every year in September/October, as it is one of the major festivals of Chennai and nearby cities.

Diversion announced on these routes:

- The police stated that the heavy vehicles from several cities, including Chennai and Avadi, will be diverted at Poonamallee through Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Tirukovilur before rejoining GST Road.

- The vehicles going towards Tambaram from Maduravoyal will be diverted through Sriperumbudur.

- The authority stated that the vehicles from Kancheepuram (via Walajabad) will be diverted at the Oragadam junction to reduce the congestion in the key areas of the city.

- In its advisory, the Tambaram city police stated that the vehicles coming from Chengalpattu and Singaperumal Kovil will be diverted through Kancheepuram and Sriperumbudur towards the Bengaluru highway before entering the capital city, Chennai.

-The diversion on this route will be implemented from 2 pm on October 5 to 4 pm on October 6, the police confirmed.

- To address the issue of stranded trucks at the Irumbuliyur bridge, the police stated that these vehicles will be diverted via Vandalur Outer Ring Road.

- Apart from this, the police advised the commuters heading to Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Nagapattinam, and other nearby districts to use OMR and ECR to avoid congestion.

- The authority also stated that the Southern Railway will operate special local trains to manage the surge in passengers. Apart from this, 2,430 special buses will run from Kilambakkam bus terminus from September 26 to 30.
