Chhattisgarh Rail News: In a major update for the rail passengers of Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon, the much-awaited Dongargarh-Katghora new rail line project has reportedly received approval from the centre. Earlier on Thursday, the project was discussed at a meeting in Delhi's Rail Bhavan between Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey, and Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu.

These Regions To Get Benefit

The officials, while providing details, stated that the new rail line is likely to directly benefit the passengers of several regions, including Khairagarh, Chhuikhadan, Kawardha, and Pandariya regions. Along with improving the regional connectivity, the rail project will also boost the industrial, agricultural, and commercial activities in these regions, further leading to new job opportunities.

The officials also stated that the new rail line will provide better rail connectivity to the Khairagarh, Chhuikhadan, Kawardha, and Pandariya regions of the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency.

'Alternative Rail Link'

Apart from this, the Dongargarh-Katghora rail line is also being considered as an alternative rail link. Its construction will reduce operational pressure on the key Mumbai-Howrah railway line, increasing operational capacity and paving the way for the introduction of new trains in the future. The operation of new trains will provide an additional option to the passengers for several states.

The Dongargarh-Katghora new rail line project was approved earlier in 2018 with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 4,821 crore. However, the project cost has now increased to Rs 6,947 crore due to the delay in approval and construction works. The Bilaspur Railway Zone recently submitted a revised cost proposal to the Railway Board, which has now been approved.

Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey stated that he had raised the issue of this project several times in the Lok Sabha and placed its need before the Railway Ministry.
