Heavy rains lashed several parts of Chhattisgarh over the past two days, leading to flooding and disrupting daily life in multiple districts of the state. The heavy rainfall resulted in several small rivers and rivulets overflowing, impacting normal activities in Bijapur, Dantewada, Sukma and Narayanpur districts. Additionally, roads have been inundated and several villages in the Bastar region have been cut off, officials said.
State Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap has urged district collectors and revenue officials to prepare for flood-like situations and implement disaster management measures. He has instructed officials to keep disaster management centres operational around the clock and to take preventive actions against seasonal illnesses. Regular monitoring of water levels in dams, reservoirs and bridges has also been mandated.
Over 100 villages in Bijapur, Dantewada and Sukma have been cut off due to the incessant rains. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police have been deployed for the evacuation of stranded individuals. Several houses and crops have been damaged and heavy flooding has affected low-lying areas in Sukma, where water has overflowed onto National Highway-30. Motor boats and Home Guard personnel have been deployed to assist with crossing waterlogged roads.
