Chhattisgarh police have arrested three people in connection with the alleged murder of a video journalist. In an operation on Saturday, the state police arrested them after the journalist's body was found in a septic tank of a road constructor in Bijapur district. Earlier on New Year's Day, the journalist went missing after he got a call from a local contractor's cousin.
Mukesh Chandrakar, a television journalist who also had his own YouTube channel, was found dead on the premises of the road contractor on January 3, two days after he went missing. Chandrakar went missing after he received the call from the contractor's cousin. He told his fellow journalist in Raipur that the contractor's cousin wanted to meet him.

He reportedly went to meet the man but did not return from there. The state police stated that before going missing, his phones were switched off around 12.30 am on New Year's Day. Chandrakar's brother Yukesh, who is also a journalist, filed a complaint in the nearest police station on January 2 after Mukesh did not return.
IG Bastar P Sundarraj stated that a special team was set up immediately to trace the journalist after the complaint was lodged. He later stated that Mukesh's last known mobile location was traced to the campus premises of a contractor, where the police recovered the body. The police detailed that he had multiple injuries on his head and back. Jitendra Yadav, Superintendent of Police, confirmed that the contractor and other suspects were being interrogated as the body was recovered on his premises.
