The Congress dismissed speculation about internal differences within its Kerala unit following Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent remarks, asserting that the party remains united. Congress' Kerala in-charge Deepa Dasmunshi, with Shashi Tharoor by her side, made the statement on Friday after a high-level meeting with state party leaders ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.

Deepa Dasmunshi dismissed media reports suggesting discord within the party. "The media is giving a wrong impression. Everyone here has strongly expressed opposition to both the LDF and BJP. The leaders are united and will speak in a single voice," she stated.

The meeting, attended by senior leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, was aimed at strategising for the upcoming polls. Party leaders reaffirmed their commitment to defeating both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the BJP, highlighting Congress’ role in shaping Kerala’s development model.

"Change is inevitable in Kerala," the state Congress unit posted on X, underscoring its confidence in bringing the United Democratic Front (UDF) to power.

Addressing the media after the meeting, senior leader Ramesh Chennithala reiterated that the Congress remains united and will work collectively to reclaim power in Kerala. "We will fight and win back, and a UDF government will be installed in 2026," he said.

Shashi Tharoor also echoed the party's unity message, posting on X that the meeting ended with a "strong affirmation of party unity" as Congress gears up for the election season.

The unity assertion comes in the wake of controversy surrounding Tharoor’s recent article praising the CPI(M)-led LDF government for boosting investment in Kerala. His remarks in a podcast, suggesting he had "other options" if Congress did not want him, further fueled speculation. Additionally, his selfie with Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Britain's Secretary of State Jonathan Reynolds intensified the buzz.

Shashi Tharoor later clarified that his statements were misconstrued. He posted a post on X clarifying his statement and slamming the media outlet for misinterpretation of his remarks made during the outlet.
