Coronavirus Pandemic: India reports third death due to COVID-19 as 63-year-old Maharashtra man dies

New Delhi | Jagran News Desk:  India on Tuesday reported third death due to the COVID-19 as a 63-year-old man died in Maharashtra, reported news agency ANI. He also had high blood pressure, pneumonia & inflammation of heart muscles and increased heart rate leading to death, the report said. 

In earlier cases, a 68-year-old woman had died in Delhi while the first fatality was a 76-year-old patient in Karnataka with travel history to Saudi Arabia.

The total number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus has reached 126 in India, Health Ministry said on Tuesday. The country is heading towards a lockdown as schools, colleges, cinema halls, pubs, gyms, etc. in several states have been closed till March 31 to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

In the national capital, a gathering of more than 50 people has been banned, including anti-citizenship Act protestors at Shaheen Bagh. 

Of the total number of cases, 36 have been reported in Maharashtra-- maximum in the country. Besides this, 22 cases have been reported in Kerela, 15 in Haryana, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, eight in Karnataka, seven in Delhi, 4 each in Ladakh and Telangana, 3 in Jammu & Kashmir, two in Rajasthan and one each in Punjab, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and Andhra Pradesh.

A total of 22 foreign nationals have tested positive for the Coronavirus. The total list of positive cases also includes 13 patients who have been discharged after treatment.

In order to contain the virus, the government has cancelled all foreign nationals visa till April 15 and banned the entry of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines, and Malaysia with immediate effect. It has also stronged urged people of India to avoid travelling to countries like Korea, China, Italy, and Iran. 

The outbreak, which began in China last year, has so far claimed the lives of 7,000 people around the world with 1,75,000 confirmed cases globally. 

Meanwhile, the US has begun a clinical trial of an investigational vaccine designed to protect against COVID-19.
