Days after former WFI president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh accused Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat of cheating, Phogat responded to him by stating, "Brij Bhushan is not the country. My country supports me, and those who care about me are what truly matters."

Replying to a question Phogat told ANI, "Brij Bhushan is not the country. My country stands by me. My loved ones stand by me and they matter to me."

"It feels good, people are very excited, the responsibility we have been given, the Congress party has sent us here as candidates, so people are giving us love and supporting us. Our people will make me win, and I am a winner in their eyes, so nothing can be bigger than this," Vinesh told reporters.

On Saturday, Brij Bhushan claimed that Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia were being exploited by the Congress as "pawns" in a "plot" to seize control of the WFI and target the BJP.

Brij Bhushan also said, “Can a player participate in trials for two weight categories in one day? Can the trials be halted for 5 hours after the weigh-in?… You didn't win the wrestling; you succeeded through cheating. God has punished you for this.”

‘Want To Thank Congress Party’

Speaking at a public gathering in Jind, Vinesh also expressed her gratitude to the Congress party for backing the wrestlers. She also reflected on the moment when Priyanka Gandhi came to show her support for the wrestlers at Jantar Mantar.

"We will inaugurate our office the day after tomorrow...The country has given me a lot. Whatever I am today is because of wrestling. I want to thank the Congress party a lot. Not only because they gave me the ticket but when we were sitting on the road, Priyanka Gandhi came to us. At that time we felt that we should leave our country but she (Priyanka Gandhi) said that we should not lose courage and we should answer these people through wrestling," she said.
