  3. Locals demand technical inspection, question construction quality.

The ambitious Ram Van Gaman Path project in Uttar Pradesh has run into trouble even before its scheduled inauguration, after the newly constructed road developed cracks and sank at multiple places in Shringaverpur Dham.

Traffic on the route has been halted following the damage, with four portions of the road reportedly cracking or caving in within a 100-metre stretch between the Lucknow road and the Ganga bridge.

Road Sinks At Four Spots

The damage has emerged during the rainy season, raising concerns over the quality of construction and the effectiveness of departmental supervision. The road is scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath next month, and the visible damage has triggered anger among residents.

Locals have questioned how a road that is yet to be fully completed developed cracks and sank during rainfall. They have also called for a technical inspection of the damaged sections to determine the cause and prevent similar problems in the future.

Project To Connect Ayodhya With Chitrakoot

The Ram Van Gaman Path is an approximately 210-km road connecting Ayodhya and Chitrakoot, passing through various important religious/historic places such as Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Shringaverpur Dham, and Kaushambi, with the objectives of the betterment of connectivity, growth of religious tourist places and enhancement of the economy at those places.

The important structure to be developed under the above project is a proposed approximately 1,200 m long, six- lane bridge over the Ganga at Shringaverpur Dham to join the Prayagraj side of the Ganga with Kaushambi and further connectivity towards Chitrakoot.

Foundation Stone Laid In 2022

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath virtually laid the foundation stone for the Ram Van Gaman Path project in 2022 in the presence of MPs and MLAs. The project is considered significant for both religious tourism and regional connectivity, with its completion expected to make travel between the major pilgrimage sites easier.

However, the road subsidence at Shringaverpur Dham has prompted fresh questions over construction standards, materials and quality checks.

NH Says Damaged Section Will Be Repaired

NH Executive Engineer Ravindra Pal Singh said a portion of the Ram Van Gaman Path was damaged due to rain and assured that the affected section would be repaired soon.

Meanwhile, residents have maintained that the damaged stretch should undergo a technical assessment along with the repairs to identify the reason for the cracks and sinking and ensure the problem does not recur.
