The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is likely to hold a meeting in Delhi on October 9, in order to discuss several significant issues related to the upcoming state assembly elections, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday citing sources.

The agenda for the meeting also includes discussions about the implementation and implications of the Women's Reservation Act, the contentious matter of conducting a caste-based census, concerns about the alleged misuse of investigation agencies against political opponents and an assessment of the current political situation in the country.

Congress last held a CWC meeting in Telangana’s Hyderabad on September 17 where the party aimed at planning a strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in five states. After two days of deliberate discussions among top party leaders, the Congress party expressed confidence about receiving a decisive mandate in the election.

In the last meeting, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge urged the party leaders to set aside their party differences and ensure the party's success. Congress also adopted a resolution at the conclusion of the CWC meeting in Hyderabad, confident that the party will receive the support of the people of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana in the Assembly elections due in months.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged leaders to focus on the poor and their issues, as they have been the party's traditional vote bank, rather than getting involved in the Sanatan Dharma row.

Building the roadmap for the 2024 general elections Congress along with other political parties is keen to bring the issues of caste-based census and poor-centric political debates as the core agenda to fight a fierce election battle with the BJP-led NDA.
