Cyclone Dana Landfall: Cyclone Dana is swiftly moving towards the coast and is likely to make landfall between Puri’s National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha today. A red alert has been sounded across coastal areas. Over 10 lakh people have been shifted to relief camps in anticipation of huge impact of the storm. Odisha, Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand are among the states which are bracing for the repercussions of the massive storm.
As many as 288 NDRF teams have been deployed in the coastal areas for relief operations. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and is advancing toward Odisha at a speed of 15 km/h. Currently, the cyclone is located 560 km from Paradip and 630 km from Sagar Island.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Manjhi conducted a cabinet meeting on Wednesday to discuss the probable impacts and preparedness of the cyclone. He assigned nine ministers and nine senior IAS officers to oversee rescue and relief efforts.
