Dehradun News: In a shocking incident from Dehradun, an independent journalist died allegedly following a brutal assault in the Rajpur area. The deceased died after a group of men reportedly barged into his residence late Monday night, abused him and launched a violent assault with the intention to kill.
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh stated that the assailants forced their way into the house before targeting the journalist. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead. An FIR has been registered, and the accused are yet to be arrested.

How Did The Incident Unfold?
According to police officials, the incident occurred in Dehradun’s Rajpur area on Monday night when a man identified as Amit and along with some others, allegedly stormed Pankaj Mishra’s residence. They started abusing and assaulting him with the ‘intention to kill’.
Detailing the incident, the victim’s brother, Arvind, stated that the main accused, Amit Sehgal, repeatedly kicked and punched Mishra in the chest and stomach, causing him to bleed from the mouth. “He is a heart and liver patient, hit him on the stomach and chest. This will be enough to finish him,” Amit said in the complaint.

The group of men allegedly took away the mobile phones of both the journalist and his wife before fleeing the scene. Despite this, Mishra managed to inform the police of the attack. When officers arrived at the scene, they asked him to undergo a medical examination and submit a written complaint.
Mishra became unconscious after experiencing severe pain in the early hours of December 16, around 3 AM. He was rushed to Doon Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. “My sister-in-law woke up… by then, my brother had stood up from the bed and suddenly collapsed unconscious onto the ground. Although he was taken by ambulance to Doon Hospital, the doctors declared my brother dead on arrival,” said the complaint.
According to SSP Singh, the primary suspect, Amit Sehgal, is also a digital media journalist. Amit and Mishra were acquaintances, and their personal dispute had recently escalated over social media, The Indian Express reported.
Although a post-mortem has been conducted, the exact cause of death remains unknown.
Following his death, an FIR naming Sehgal was registered late Tuesday night under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 103 (murder), Section 304 (snatching), Section 333 (house-trespass), and Section 352 (intentional insult). The police have stated that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.
