During the winter months, the national capital experiences an increase in pollution because of several factors, such as low wind speed, stubble burning, and high moisture levels.

The Supreme Court recently took note of the increasing pollution in the national capital due to stubble burning in the neighbouring states-Punjab and Haryana and slammed the government of both the states for failing to prosecute those found guilty of stubble burning. A total of 24 officers and employees of the Agriculture Department were suspended including the employees from Agriculture Development Officer to Agriculture Supervisor in Haryana following the criticism by the apex court.
