Delhi AQI News: The national capital on Friday recorded the worst air quality in the country, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting 322 at 4 PM, placing Delhi in the ‘red zone’. The NCR cities, such as Ghaziabad and Noida, also reported high pollution levels, ranking just behind the national capital, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

Delhi’s air quality worsened sharply on Friday, November 7, rising from the fifth place a day earlier to become the most polluted city in India, news agency PTI reported. Ghaziabad followed with an AQI of 314, while Noida reported 306, both in the ‘very poor’ category. As per CPCB’s Sameer app, 29 out of 38 monitoring stations in the national capital recorded readings above 300, with PM2.5 remaining as the key pollutant.

The Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi has forecast that the city’s air quality is likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ category for the next few days. Since Diwali, pollution levels in Delhi have witnessed persistent deterioration, with the AAQI fluctuating between the ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ categories.

Mercury Dips As Delhi Records Coldest Night Of The Season

Delhi’s temperatures continued to fall on Friday, with the city recording its coldest night of the season at 12.7 degrees Celsius, the same as Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius, around 0.9°C below normal.

This marks a gradual dip from the season’s previous low of 15.8 degrees Celsius on October 26. In comparison, Delhi recorded lower temperatures in previous years: 9.5 degrees Celsius on October 29 last year, 9.2 degrees Celsius on October 23 in 2023, and 7.3 degrees Celsius on October 29 in 2022, indicating a slower onset of winter this year.

The weather department has forecast fog for Saturday, with temperatures expected to range between 27-32 degrees Celsius during the day and 12-14 degrees Celsius at night.
