Delhi Car Blast: Investigation into the deadly explosion near the historic Red Fort on Monday evening revealed that 32 vehicles, including a Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Swift Dzire, and Ford EcoSport, were being readied to carry explosive materials or deliver bombs for coordinated attacks across multiple cities.
The cars, including the white Hyundai i20, that exploded on Monday, were part of a planned series of revenge attacks across multiple locations, including six targets in Delhi on December 6, marking the anniversary of the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition in Ayodhya, NDTV quoted sources as saying.
Among the vehicles linked to the plot are a Maruti Brezza, Maruti Swift Dzire, Ford EcoSport, and the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday, October 10. According to authorities, the cars were deliberately selected because they were older models that had been changed multiple times, making it difficult to trace the ownership.
However, all four vehicles have now been recovered. The Maruti Brezza was seized from the Al-Falah School of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Faridabad, Haryana, which the investigators have identified as the central hub of the terror network.
An abandoned Ford EcoSport (DL10 CK 0458) was found in Faridabad with an unknown man asleep inside, who has now been detained by the authorities. In a separate incident, a Maruti Swift Dzire seized earlier this week was found carrying an assault rifle along with ammunition.
Premature Blast At Red Fort Kills 13: Officials
According to the authorities, the Hyundai i20, loaded with high-grade explosives and ammonium nitrate fuel oil, was intended to detonate inside the Red Fort’s parking area. The explosion occurred prematurely, claiming 13 lives and injuring several others.
Authorities probing the Delhi blast case believe that the explosion was accidentally triggered by Umar Mohammed, also known as Umar un-Nabi, one of the key operatives. CCTV footage shows the Hyundai i20 entering Delhi from the Badarpur border early Monday morning and moving around the city before the explosion. Authorities further suspect that Nabi panicked after several of his associates were apprehended.
