Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday presented the Budget in the Assembly. During her budget speech, she announced that women will not have to take pink tickets to travel in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses.

The Chief Minister said that women will be given smart cards to travel free in DTC buses. She allocated Rs 12,952 crore to improve the bus transport services in Delhi. She also set a target of adding 5,000 electric buses in Delhi by 2026 for public transport.

While presenting a total budget of Rs 1 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta criticized the Aam Aadmi Party for the Rs 14,000 crore loss to DTC exposed in the CAG report. During this, she claimed, "In the previous government, there was a pink ticket scam in the name of offering free travel to women."

The Delhi CM also allocated Rs 2,929 crore for the projects of Delhi Metro. Additionally, she added that the previous AAP government did not give any funds to pay the liability of Rs 6,000 crore to the central government for the fourth phase of the metro.

Earlier on Monday, she tabled the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the DTC in the Assembly, highlighting operational inefficiencies and financial losses, leading to criticism of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

As per the report, the DTC’s losses increased by Rs 35,000 crore between 2015-16 to 2021-22. In 2015-16, it was Rs 25,300 crore which spiked to nearly Rs 60,750 crore in 2021-22.

The report further added that the overaged buses also increased in numbers as in 2015-16, there were only 5 overaged buses (0.17 per cent), which spiked to 1,770 (44.96 per cent), by March 31, 2023.
