Delhi Red Fort Blast: A week after the Delhi Red Fort blast, new details have emerged regarding the so-called “white collar” terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Faridabad, Haryana. The attack, which claimed 13 lives, involved a Hyundai i20 driven by Pulwama-based doctor Umar Nabi, who had alleged ties to the terror group. Investigations revealed a network spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, with explosives primarily recovered from Faridabad.
Sources told NDTV that all key suspects, including the suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi, had clearly defined roles. While their responsibilities ranged from logistics to bomb-making, all were aware of the overarching objective: to execute terror attacks.
The Red Fort blast, which occurred on a busy Monday evening, followed hours after eight arrests, including three doctors, and the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives. Authorities described the uncovered network as a “white collar” terror module, linking JeM and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
Delhi Red Fort Blast: Take A Look At Key Suspects & Their Roles
- Umar-bin-Khattab alias Hanjulla: A Pakistan-based operative, he maintained contact with Maulvi Irfan Ahmed from Jammu and Kashmir.
- Maulvi Irfan Ahmed: Based in Shopian, he served as the ideological recruiter, radicalising educated youth and connecting them with JeM to establish the white collar terror module. Ahmed recruited several doctors, including Muzamil Shakeel, recognising their potential to expand the network.
- Muzamil Shakeel: A doctor at Faridabad’s Al-Falah University, Shakeel recruited like-minded colleagues: Muzaffar Ahmad, Adeel Ahmad Rather, and Shaheen Saeed. Shaheen further brought in her brother, Parvez Ansari. Shakeel was central to the network, transporting explosives and radicalising students.
- Shaheen Saeed: A lecturer from Lucknow at Al-Falah University, she primarily raised funds for the module and linked underprivileged women and girls to JeM’s women’s wing, Jamaat-ul-Muminat. She financed the Faridabad module with around Rs 20 lakh and maintained an ongoing fundraising campaign.
- Adeel Ahmad Rather: His arrest by Jammu and Kashmir Police exposed the entire network. Information from Rather led to the apprehension of doctors Shakeel and Saeed, and the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad. His main role was procuring weapons for the module.
- Umar Un Nabi: The suicide bomber drove the i20 across Delhi before detonating it in a crowded area. He had received training in using ammonium nitrate and was highly radicalised, as evidenced in a video he recorded prior to the attack.
- Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish: He worked as a technician for the terror module. He was trained in bomb-making and recruited by the suicide bomber himself. Jasir Bilal was given the task of looking for ways to attach explosives to drones. He planned to make rockets for the terror module. NIA, in a press release, said that investigations have revealed that Jasir had allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly car bomb blast, which killed 13 people and left several injured.
The accused, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district of J&K, was an active co-conspirator behind the attack and had worked closely with the terrorist, Umar un Nabi, to plan the terror carnage, the NIA said. A special NIA court at Patiala House Court in the national capital on Tuesday remanded Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish to 10 days.
