AAP leader Atishi submited her resignation as Delhi CM. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi arrived at Raj Bhavan at 11 am on Sunday (February 9) to submit her resignation, following the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) defeat by the BJP in Saturday’s election.
Atishi, 43, had been serving as the Chief Minister of Delhi since September last year. She was elevated to the top post after Kejriwal announced his resignation, days after stepping down from the position.
She became the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) experienced a significant decline, losing its decade-long dominance in the Delhi Assembly. Prior to the elections, AAP held 58 out of 70 seats. However, the results on Saturday saw their representation drop to just 22 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a majority by winning 48 seats, while the Indian National Congress failed to win any seats for the third consecutive time.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has officially dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, effective from February 8, 2025.
The BJP achieved a historic victory in the Delhi polls on Saturday, returning to power in the national capital after 27 years by ousting AAP.
Atishi, however, managed to retain the Kalkaji seat after a tough contest, defeating BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by a margin of 3,521 votes. Acknowledging her personal victory, Atishi conceded AAP's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections and vowed to continue fighting against the BJP.
Atishi's win in the Kalkaji constituency stands out for AAP, especially given that several top leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, lost their constituencies.
BJP’s Parvesh Verma emerged as a giant killer in the assembly election, winning decisively with over a 4,000-vote margin against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat. The Congress, which had hoped for a revival in the national capital, once again failed to secure any seats.
The election outcomes were particularly challenging for AAP's leadership. Arvind Kejriwal, the party's prominent figure, lost his seat in the New Delhi constituency. This defeat marks a significant shift in Delhi's political landscape, ending AAP's decade-long rule in the city.
