In a chilling episode of Delhi crimes, a man was helped by his wife and brother-in-law to conceal the body. The incident occurred in southwest Delhi's Chhawla, where police arrested the wife and the brother-in-law of the accused.

Police have also arrested the main accused, Virendra (35), for allegedly killing the 44-year-old woman by throttling her with his elbow after a drunken quarrel at their rented house on the intervening night of November 25 and 26.

A senior police officer said that on November 28, two more persons were arrested in the case: Chetan (21), Virendra’s brother-in-law from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana and Poonam (31), Virendra’s wife. According to the police, evidence clearly showed their involvement in the crime.

"Both Chetan and Poonam arrived at the house that night and assisted Virendra in carrying the woman's body down to the car parked outside. Their clothes from the night of the incident have been seized, along with an electric scooter used by them to reach the spot," the officer said.

Police said Virendra, who works for a private bus company, had been living with the woman for the past two years. The couple had earlier sold her house in Palam. With that money, Virendra bought a three-storey building in Chhawla and registered it in his own name in August this year. He also kept another Rs 21 lakh from the sale.

The unequal division of the sale proceeds had become a major source of fights between the two.

On the night of the incident, the couple allegedly consumed alcohol, and a fight erupted. During the altercation, Virendra pinned the woman to the bed and allegedly throttled her with his elbow, killing her.

Police said that after the murder, Virendra called Chetan and Poonam for help. After the three moved the body to the car, the couple left, and Virendra attempted to drive away to dispose of the body. However, heavily intoxicated, he abandoned the vehicle barely 100 metres away and returned home, where he continued drinking before falling asleep.

The next morning, around 9 am, a neighbour noticed the woman’s body inside the electric scooter and immediately alerted the police. When officers reached the house, they found Virendra sleeping inside and arrested him on the spot. Police say the investigation is continuing. The clothes he was wearing and the electric vehicle have been sent for forensic examination.
