A 22-year-old delivery boy was arrested by Delhi police for allegedly defrauding e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart by sending fake return packages. The accused, Kishan from Dwarkapuri, was working for two different delivery companies at the same time.
The accused, Kishan, a resident of Dwarkapuri, was employed as a delivery partner for two e-commerce platforms.
The investigation was launched following an e-FIR that raised suspicions about a delivery agent manipulating returned items. According to the complaint, genuine products sent back by customers were being replaced with old or used items. These swapped goods were then accepted by the companies as valid returns, resulting in financial losses.
Using a combination of technical surveillance and field intelligence, the police traced Kishan and apprehended him in Rajapuri, Uttam Nagar. During the arrest, authorities recovered 38 counterfeit return items, including a tablet, a mobile phone, 22 packets of clothing, three watches, two pairs of slippers, a pair of shoes, and 10 other miscellaneous packages.
Police stated that Kishan bypassed standard quality checks by submitting the tampered packages directly to company warehouses. This not only caused monetary loss to the platforms but also undermined customer trust in the return process.
All recovered items have been seized, and legal proceedings are underway. Investigators are now examining whether other individuals may be connected to the scheme.
The Dwarka District Police emphasized the need for e-commerce companies to enhance their return verification systems to identify and prevent such fraudulent activities.
This case mirrors a similar incident in Bengaluru last year, where a Zomato delivery agent was caught on CCTV allegedly stealing a food parcel left at a customer’s doorstep.
