Delhi Assembly Election 2025 Results: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia lost the Jangpura assembly seat to BJP candidate Tarvinder Singh Marwah by a margin of about 600 votes in a very close contested election. The Election Commission of India reports that Sisodia received 34,060 votes, while Marwah received 34,632 votes.
Farhad Suri, a candidate for Congress, failed to make an impression and lost by a staggering margin of more than 27,766 votes, receiving only 6,866 votes.
Who Is Tarvinder Singh Marwah?
Tarvinder Singh Marwah, a seasoned politician, is well-known in Jangpura. In the past, he ran for Congress and won the Jangpura seat three times, in 1998, 2003, and 2008. But in 2013, Maninder Singh Dhir of the AAP defeated him.
After Dhir joined the BJP in 2015, the AAP put up Praveen Kumar, who defeated Marwah and Dhir. In the 2020 Assembly elections, Kumar kept the seat, and Marwah, who ran on a Congress ticket, came in third.
Marwah joined the BJP in 2022 after claiming that the Congress ignored more seasoned leaders like him. His 2025 electoral triumph represents a major political resurgence in Delhi.
At the moment, Marwah also serves on the Management Committee of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara.
Jangpura has long been a Congress bastion, and this is the first time a BJP candidate has won the seat since the start of Delhi Assembly elections. The constituency is well-known for its varied population, which includes sizable Muslim and Dalit populations in addition to a large Sikh and Punjabi voter base. Marwah's strong local presence and experience were key factors in the BJP's choice to field him.
Sisodia's Reaction After Loss
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and important AAP figure Manish Sisodia congratulated Marwah and praised the party's work after his loss.

"Our party workers fought well, and we put in a lot of hard work. The people supported us too. However, I lost by 600 votes. I congratulate the winner and hope he will serve the constituency well," Sisodia said.
In addition to Sisodia and Marwah, a prominent Congressman and former mayor of Delhi named Farhad Suri was also in the run. Son of the late Tajdar Babar, the previous head of the DPCC, Suri rose to fame in 2006 after winning the Delhi mayor election. Nevertheless, he was subject to legal challenges and ultimately lost to Sarika Chaudhary of the AAP from Daryaganj in the 2022 Delhi MCD elections.
