Delhi February 5 Holiday: The Delhi government declared February 5 (Wednesday) a public holiday in light of the assembly elections. The holiday will apply to all government and private offices in the national capital. All educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities will also remain closed for the elections in the union territory.

In a notification issued by the General Administration Department, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena stated that the holiday would cover all government offices, local and autonomous bodies and public sector undertakings under the Delhi government.

"There will be a public holiday on February 5 for all government offices, local and autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, in view of the General Election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly," Delhi LG VK Saxena said.

Delhi Voting Details

The election for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. Polling will take place from 7 AM to 6 PM across 13,766 polling stations spread over 2,696 locations. These include 13,033 permanent and 733 additional polling stations. One Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) will be used at each polling station, totalling 13,766 EVMs across Delhi’s constituencies.

Security And Personnel Deployment

A total of 1,09,955 employees will be deployed for the election, with 68,733 assigned to polling duty. Each polling party will consist of four employees. Security arrangements include 220 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, 19,000 Home Guard personnel, and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel.

Employees assigned to polling stations will reach their locations by Tuesday evening and stay overnight. Strong rooms and counting centres have been set up in all 11 districts, totaling 19 facilities. The elections will also utilise 20,692 Control Units (CUs), 21,584 Ballot Units (BUs), and 18,943 Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs) for voting verification.
