The Union Health Ministry has issued a notice to a doctor in Delhi's GB Pant Hospital for her unauthorised leave from the service for three years, while her social media profile describes her as a filmmaker in Canada.
The doctor named Manju Subberwal is the former head of the biochemistry department in the hospital, according to a report by The Indian Express. She was removed from the position of HoD nearly a month ago.
The health ministry has sought an explanation for her absence in the notice, also drawing salary during the entire period. Apart from a medical practitioner, her Instagram profile describes her as ‘telly awards winner, filmmaker, writer, and editor’.
It is not the first instance of notice being served to her. In July also a notice was served, asking why action shouldn't be initiated for her non-compliance with the rules and regulations related to the duty of the government officials.
The report further stated that the hospital has prepared a chargesheet that will be submitted to the ministry. According to the rules, the doctors can take 10 days of earned leave, 10 days of casual leave, and 30 days of teaching leave.
The teaching leaves must be split into 15 days each in six months. For study leave, 36 months are granted for the post-graduate certification course, with the condition that the candidate must serve the government for at least 5 years.
The Health Ministry has also sought information on Subberwal's visit to India during this period from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office.
Reportedly, the action was initiated after a complaint was filed against Subberwal in May by an employee of GIPMER, the medical college associated with the hospital.

In the complaint, it was alleged that she went to Canada in 2022 for a filmmaking course and as drawing a full salary. It is alleged that she hatched the conspiracy with the help of another doctor, who was signing all official documents on her behalf.
