Delhi Aadhaar Vault: The Delhi government is setting up a dedicated Aadhaar vault to protect sensitive personal information provided by citizens while applying for government schemes and services. Officials said the project is being developed by the Department of Information Technology in line with the guidelines issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Technical Testing Completed By NIC
According to senior officials, Aadhaar details are a key requirement for most online applications on the Delhi government’s e-governance platforms, making secure storage essential. They noted that the vault will ensure that Aadhaar numbers and related information remain protected from misuse. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) has already tested the system successfully on a staging server, clearing a major technical step in the project.
The government signed an agreement earlier this year with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to store e-District platform data and the proposed Unified Data Hub within the upcoming Aadhaar vault. The e-District portal is widely used by residents to apply for certificates, including caste and income documents, and to access several welfare schemes.
Officials said the Aadhaar vault will provide multiple benefits, including stronger data protection and safer integration with e-governance services. Once implemented, it will create an encrypted central repository designed to keep Aadhaar details secure and minimise the possibility of identity-related fraud.

Delhi IT Minister Reviews Progress, Seeks Faster Implementation
Delhi IT Minister Pankaj Singh recently reviewed the progress of the project and asked officials to accelerate the remaining work. The vault is expected to serve as a key data security component across various departments once operational.
UIDAI first issued guidelines in 2017 requiring all agencies collecting Aadhaar numbers for authentication to store them in a central, encrypted vault. The Aadhaar Data Vault framework aims to reduce Aadhaar exposure within IT systems and provide an additional security layer for identity details.
Officials said the Delhi government’s vault will follow the same model, creating a secure digital environment for handling Aadhaar-linked information across its services.
