Delhi:  In a major boost to strengthen primary healthcare infrastructure in the national capital, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced to open nearly 100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs every month across Delhi. This initiative aims to bring primary treatment closer to residents' homes and reduce the increasing patient load on government hospitals.

This announcement came during a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, in which CM Gupta directed the officials to identify government plots larger than 100 square yards to build new Arogya centres, NDTV reported.

WHICH Services Will Be Available At Arogya Mandirs?

Each Ayushman Arogya Mandir will function as a comprehensive primary healthcare unit, providing a wide range of services, such as:

- Maternal and child healthcare

- Neonatal and adolescent care

- Family planning

- Treatment of infectious and non-communicable diseases

- Eye, ENT and oral health

- Mental health screening and support

- Elderly and palliative care

- Basic emergency care

- In-house diagnostic labs are also available for faster test results

“These centres should have space for emergency beds and parking so they can be used in times of crisis,” Gupta said.

Staff Recruitment And Infrastructure

The work has picked up pace with recruitment for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians and multi-support staff already underway. Additionally, each Arogya centre will be equipped with medicines, clean toilets, essential furniture, and modern laboratories.

Arogya Centre Secures Rs 2,400 Crore Funding From Government

CM Rekha Gupta has confirmed that the project has secured Rs 2,400 crore from the Central government, covering both operational and construction costs. According to the officials, the financial support from the Centre will ensure smooth scaling of the Arogya Centre without any financial roadblocks.

Arogya Centre To Reduce Pressure On Govt Hospitals

The Ayushman Arogya Centre project aims to reduce the burden on government hospitals by managing seasonal illnesses, routine check-ups, and preventive care. This will allow major government hospitals to treat critical patients effectively.

At present, Delhi has 67 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. With the new initiative, the government departments have been directed to fast-track the construction of centres, procure medical equipment and recruit staff to ensure that each Arogya centre is fully operational from day one.
