The extreme heat wave conditions are likely over northwest and central India during the next 3 days, the Indian Meteorological Department said. The weather department also said that the conditions may improve after a few days.

Several Parts To Receive Heatwaves

In a press release issued on Saturday, IMD stated that isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh saw heat wave to severe heat wave conditions, while a few locations in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh had heatwave conditions.

In certain isolated areas over Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, and north Rajasthan, heat wave conditions are also expected.

IMD further advised people to stay out of the sun between 12 and 4 pm, drink lots of water, cover themselves with hats or umbrellas, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars.

The weather department has issued an orange alert in Delhi for Sunday and a yellow alert for Monday. Several parts, including North Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and Central Delhi, are experiencing heat wave conditions.

In a weather bulletin, IMD claimed that Sunday was the 3rd consecutive day of a heat wave over Delhi. The bulletin further added that these conditions are expected to continue till tomorrow.

The minimum temperatures are likely to remain in the range of 25-27°C, and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 43-45°C.

Areas May Cross 40 Degree Mark: IMD

For April 27, IMD has claimed heat wave conditions at isolated places. Light rain along with thunderstorms is also likely in some areas, towards the afternoon.

Not just Delhi, places in the north, central, and eastern parts of India also crossed the 40-degree mark. On Saturday, the temperature in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, reached 42.5 degrees Celsius, which is 3.4 degrees more than usual for the season.

In certain parts of Rajasthan, such as Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, and others, a yellow alert has been issued for today. In several parts of Haryana, including Gurgaon, Faridabad, Palwal, Mewat, Rewari, and Ambala, an orange alert was issued.

Strong sun heating and dry northwesterly winds, which are common causes of early-season heatwaves in northwest India, are driving the heat wave conditions.
