Delhi Heatwave Alert: Delhi remains in the grip of a severe heatwave on Monday, with temperatures nearing 43 degrees Celsius in several parts of the city till 2 pm as scorching conditions swept across northwest and central India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the mercury is likely to rise further over the next two days, with some areas of the national capital expected to touch 45 degrees Celsius. A yellow alert for heatwave conditions has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday.
As per the IMD forecast, Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to stay between 43 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle around 26.3 degrees Celsius. The weather department also predicted mainly clear skies accompanied by strong surface winds during the day.
“Mainly clear sky. Sustained strong surface winds reaching 20-30 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 40 kmph during the day,” the IMD said in its forecast.

According to the weather department, a heatwave is declared when the maximum temperature crosses 40 degrees Celsius and remains at least 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal. Heatwave conditions are also announced if the temperature touches 45 degrees Celsius or more, regardless of the departure from normal temperatures.
Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to witness even harsher weather on Tuesday, with the temperature predicted to range between 36.67 degrees Celsius and 45.69 degrees Celsius.
