Delhi Weather: Delhi is currently grappling with a severe heatwave and water crisis, as extreme weather conditions continue to grip the National capital. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach a scorching 44 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Delhi Weather Forecast
According to the weekly weather forecast, Delhiites are expected to witness intense heat and variable weather patterns. On June 1, the temperature is set to drop slightly, with the maximum temperature reaching at 44 degrees Celsius and minimum at 30 degrees Celsius, accompanied with light rain and gusty winds (30-40km/h) are also anticipated, with winds shifting from the southwest in the morning to the west and west-southwest in the afternoon and evening.

Delhi Witnessed Hottest May In 11 Years
Delhi has experienced its hottest May in 11 years, with both daytime and nighttime temperatures soaring above average levels. The average maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station, for May, stood at 41.4 degrees Celsius, the highest observed in over a decade and exceeding the normal maximum for May by 1.5 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the mean minimum temperature for May 2024 (till May 30) stood at 26.4 degrees Celsius, the highest since May 2016.
Delhi Water Crisis
Amid this intense heat, the Delhi government has moved to the Supreme Court, requesting more water from neighbouring Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh at least for a month, as the city faces a water shortage due to the heatwave. "Delhi's need for water has increased in the scorching heat. It is everyone's responsibility to fulfil the needs of the country's capital," the petition reads.
