Delhi News: A man succumbed to injuries sustained from jumping out of a moving police van in Delhi, a senior police official informed on Wednesday. The man, identified as 47-year-old Pramod, was rushed from one hospital to another by police personnel due to the unavailability of beds or equipment at the hospitals, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said.

The failure to get admission at any hospital ultimately resulted in Pramod's death, the official added. Pramod was detained by the police for allegedly molesting a woman. A PCR call was received from a woman who, around 9 pm Tuesday, reported a man in an inebriated condition engaging in a quarrel in northeast Delhi's New Usmanpur area, news agency IANS said in its report.

"A police team promptly arrived at the scene where the caller was present. She alleged that Parmod, a resident of the same locality, had molested and abused her," DCP Tirkey stated.

"The Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) staff was transporting them to the New Usmanpur police station. However, when they were nearing the police station, an intoxicated and vomiting Pramod opened the glass window and jumped off the vehicle, landing on the road. He was immediately transported to the JPC Hospital," the official was quoted as saying by IANS.

Pramod was transferred to GTB Hospital by B-30 Ambulance, but due to the unavailability of a CT-Scan, admission was not possible, the Delhi Police official further said. "Consequently, he was referred to the LNJP Hospital. Unfortunately, due to a lack of beds in the ICU Ventilator, admission at LNJP Hospital was also not feasible," he added.

The injured was then taken to RML Hospital, where admission was denied by the hospital authorities, IANS reported. "Subsequently, the injured was brought back to JPC Hospital, where he was declared dead at 5.45 a.m.," said the DCP. According to reports, Pramod was previously involved in two criminal cases, including attempted murder. "A medical board is being constituted to conduct a post-mortem examination. Further investigation proceedings are in progress," the DCP said.
