Delhi Metro: Delhi commuters can look forward to convenient public transport options soon as the first section of the much-awaited Delhi Metro Phase 4 is set to open for service in August. The initial three-kilometre stretch, running from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg, will feature two new stations. The civil works for this segment have been completed, paving the way for the final safety certifications and inspections before the corridor becomes operational.
According to Anuj Dayal, the spokesperson for Delhi Metro, this new section is part of the larger 28.9-kilometre Phase 4 project. The entire Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension corridor is nearing completion, with the authorities now focused on the final stages of work and safety preparedness.
While the Janakpuri West portion of the new corridor will be elevated, the Krishna Park Extension section will be at ground level, as per the TimesNow report. The completion of all the corridors under Phase 4 is progressing steadily, with the project expected to be fully operational by March 2026.
The ambitious Phase 4 expansion plan aims to enhance connectivity across the city, linking areas such as Rohini, Prashant Vihar, North Rohini Campus, Pitampura and Dilli Haat to the bustling markets and heritage sites in central Delhi.
The project includes three major corridors, Majlis Park to Maujpur (12.5 kilometres), Aerocity to Tughlakabad (23.6 kilometres), and the soon-to-open Janakpuri West to RK Ashram (28.9 kilometres) stretch.
Meanwhile, The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated the process of securing statutory clearances for the construction of two newly approved corridors under Phase IV. The corridors, one from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and the other from Inderlok to Indraprastha, are expected to benefit an additional 2.5 lakh daily commuters. With a projected cost of Rs 8,399 crore, the corridors are targeted for completion by 2028, further expanding the metro network and improving connectivity across South, Central and East Delhi.
