- 100-km Bareilly-Haldwani Greenfield Expressway construction begins.
- Cuts Delhi-NCR to Uttarakhand travel time significantly.
- Boosts connectivity to Kumaon hills, including Nainital.
Bareilly-Haldwani Greenfield Expressway: Commuters from Gurugram and the wider Delhi-NCR region heading to the scenic hills of Uttarakhand are set for a major connectivity boost as construction work has begun on the 100-km, four-lane Greenfield Expressway connecting Bareilly and Haldwani.
The new corridor is expected to significantly cut travel time to the foothills of Uttarakhand by over three hours.
The Key Highlight Of The New Expressway
A key highlight of the project is that it uses a completely new alignment rather than widening existing roads. This controlled-access design will minimise local traffic interference and ensure smoother transit.
NHAI Approves Bareilly-Haldwani Expressway
According to a report by The Tribune, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved the 100-km, four-lane controlled-access highway and begun initial survey work, with on-site construction expected to begin in late May.
Delhi-NCR And Kumaon Hills Connectivity To Get A Major Boost
The Bareilly-Haldwani Expressway is expected to provide a direct connectivity between Bareilly and Haldwani by bypassing traffic-prone areas like Rudrapur, Kichha, Lalkuan, Pantnagar, and Baheri.
The expressway will directly connect with NH-30 and NH-24 in Bareilly, establishing a significantly smoother route between Delhi-NCR and the Kumaon hills, the report added.
How It Will Benefit Travellers?
- For commuters from Gurugram, Delhi-NCR and central Uttar Pradesh, this expressway is expected to make road trips to Uttarakhand much smoother and faster by bypassing heavy traffic on existing routes, reducing travel time to the foothills to under four hours.
- The controlled-access highway will improve driving safety and support economic activity in industrial hubs like Pantnagar and Lalkuan.
- Furthermore, the corridor is expected to make weekend gateways to popular hill stations, including Nainital, Bhimtal, and Ranikhet, significantly more convenient for North Indian travellers.
- Reports suggest that the highway could eventually be linked with major upcoming regional networks, including the Shamli-Gorakhpur Expressway.
