Delhi Police on Wednesday heightened security around the Israeli Embassy in the Tughlak Road area as tensions escalate in the Middle East. A senior Delhi Police officer confirmed that additional security personnel have been deployed and checks have been intensified in the vicinity of the embassy, which has been targeted in the past. This precaution came in place after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel on Tuesday, sparking air raid sirens across the country.

The officer noted that a multi-layered security setup, including numerous CCTV cameras, is already in place. Notably, two previous suspected IED blasts had taken place near the Israeli embassy in 2021 and 2023, though no injuries were reported in either incident.

In August, security at both the Israeli Embassy and Chabad House in Delhi had been reviewed by the police, following intelligence alerts related to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, two explosions near the Israeli Embassy in Copenhagen, Denmark, caused panic. Danish authorities swiftly deployed a large police force, cordoning off the area for security. No injuries have been reported and Copenhagen police have launched an investigation, probing whether the embassy was the intended target.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jakob Hansen mentioned that the embassy’s proximity to the explosion site is a significant aspect of the investigation.

Israel has vowed to retaliate against Iran’s missile attack, which was in response to the recent assassination of senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) leaders, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated the attacks would cease unless provoked further by Israel as the region braces for wider war.
